Deftones
w/ This Will Destroy You
Keep it on the X for your chance to grab a pair to the show!
Deftones is a metal/rock/experimental band from Sacramento, California, formed in 1988 consisting of Chino Moreno (lead vocals and guitar), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Sergio Vega (bass), Frank Delgado (keyboards and turntables), and Abe Cunningham (drums and percussion). They have released six albums to date, with their most recent Diamond Eyes released on April 30, 2010. Critics have often praised them as one of the more unique rock bands of recent years for their innovative and atmospheric music. Moreno's poetic lyrics were described by a TIME magazine critic as "suggesting emotions rather than announcing them.” See them at the Valarium on Tuesday, September 7.

An Evening with The Black Crowes
Hailed as “The Most Rock n’ Roll Rock n’ Roll Band in the World.” Named ‘Best New American Band’ by Rolling Stone readers in 1990. The Black Crowes toured with Aerosmith, Jimmy Page, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, AC/DC, The Grateful Dead, and Neil Young. They’ve walked a storied path so far. Before the Frost...Until the Freeze is the bands 8th studio album released in 2009. It was recorded before a live audience at Levon Helm's Woodstock, NY studio, The Barn in late February and early March, 2009. Paste Magazine noted the album "captures the best aspects of one of rock’s finest eras: a balance of structured songwriting and loose grooves, catchy choruses and meandering solos, hard rocking songs and easy-going attitude," while All Music Guide note that the band "wear their years proudly on this terrific album, sounding like the veteran roadhounds they've always aspired to be."

As I Lay Dying
w/ All That Remains, Unearth & Carnifex
It’s hard to believe that a veteran metal band like San Diego’s As I Lay Dying could be just hitting their stride now, some 10 years and five full-lengths into an already stellar career. Still, even after just one listen to the quintet’s latest, The Powerless Rise, you can’t ignore the obvious: One of modern metal’s best just got better. It may come as a surprise to some that AILD would attain an entirely new level of artistry and urgency with their fifth release Powerless when many others might consider phoning it in, but once you appreciate all the various ingredients essential to the album, it’s no shock at all. By taking the trademark AILD sound then adding a band-wide effort and Lambesis’ novel approach to writing lyrics, the group has truly outdone themselves on The Powerless Rise, at least for now.

311
311 have always been a band that’s defied easy description but Uplifter, the band’s latest album, finds the group harder than ever to pin down. What other band releases their riskiest, richest record after almost 20 years together? What other band had its biggest radio hit in the mid-90's but is more popular than ever a decade later, selling out amphitheaters even when they haven't had a new album in almost four years? What other band is so intent on challenging themselves while inspiring listeners to have an open mind? Clearly, there are no other bands that are quite like 311, a band that blurs borders between styles so thoroughly that they wind up blurring preconceptions of what a rock band can be. Uplifter, their ninth studio album, stands as the best evidence of 311’s eclecticism and is, in many ways, the boldest, best music they’ve ever made.
